We deliberately keep information collected about children to an absolute minimum, and we never publicly display a child’s surname, date of birth, address, school, or any other identifying detail beyond what a parent chooses to submit for the entry itself.

2.3 Information from Voters

If you register to vote (without entering a child), we collect your name, email address, and mobile number to verify your account and allocate free daily votes.

2.4 Automatically Collected Information

When you use our website, we may automatically collect:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and device information
  • Pages visited and time spent on our site
  • Cookie data (see Section 8)

3. Why We Collect This Information

We use the information above to:

  • Create and manage your Cutie Clash Pageant account
  • Display your child’s competition entry for public voting
  • Watermark and protect uploaded photos/videos
  • Verify your identity and prevent fraudulent voting (e.g. duplicate accounts, bot voting)
  • Allocate free daily votes, spin wheel results, and Double Madness Wednesday promotions
  • Process vote purchases via our payment provider
  • Contact you about your entry, competition updates, or winner notifications
  • Send marketing communications, where you’ve opted in (you may unsubscribe at any time)
  • Comply with our legal obligations, and investigate suspected fraud or abuse

We do not use a child’s information for any purpose beyond running the competition entry itself. We do not build advertising profiles targeted at children.

4. Children’s Privacy — Our Approach

Cutie Clash Pageant takes the protection of children’s personal information seriously. This is core to how we operate, not an afterthought.

  • Parental consent required: A parent or legal guardian must create the account and agree to these terms before any child’s entry is accepted. Children do not register accounts themselves.
  • Watermarking: All photos and videos submitted are watermarked to deter unauthorised copying, screenshotting, or redistribution.
  • Minimal public data: Only a first name/display name and the submitted photo or video appear publicly. No contact details, addresses, school names, or other identifying information are ever published.
  • Review process: All entries are reviewed by our team before going live, and may be removed at our discretion if they breach our safety standards or Terms & Conditions.
  • Parental control: A parent may request removal of their child’s entry, or a correction to any information, at any time (see Section 9).

Under POPIA, we process personal information on the following grounds:

  • Consent — you have given clear consent (e.g. agreeing to our T&Cs on entry, or opting in to marketing communications)
  • Contractual necessity — to provide the competition services you’ve signed up for
  • Legitimate interest — to keep our platform secure, prevent fraud, and improve our services
  • Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose information by law

6. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information, or your child’s, to third parties.

We may share limited information with:

  • Payment processors (e.g. PayFast) — solely to process vote purchases. We do not store your full card details ourselves.
  • Service providers who support our technical infrastructure (e.g. website hosting, SMS/OTP verification providers), bound by confidentiality obligations.
  • Law enforcement or regulators, only where legally required to do so.
  • Successors, in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of business assets — you would be notified of any such change.

We do not share children’s photos or videos with any third party beyond what is necessary to display the entry publicly on our own platform for voting purposes.

7. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, alteration, or disclosure, including:

  • Secure, access-controlled data storage
  • Watermarking of all uploaded child media
  • Fraud monitoring on voting activity and account creation
